How to install Kerui gas alarm system for kitchen

Important note: If you add an automatic shut-off solenoid valve (interlock system), the gas valve part must be installed and tested by a licensed gas engineer; do NOT connect gas pipes yourself机电工程署.

1. Choose the correct detector (critical)

  • Natural gas (methane, piped town gas): lighter than air → Install within 30 cm / 12 inches below the ceiling
  • LPG / Propane / bottled gas: heavier than air → Install within 30 cm / 12 inches above the floor

Buy a detector calibrated for your gas type. A wrong sensor height means it may never detect leaks.

2. Rules for picking the mounting spot

✅ Good location

  • Same room as your gas stove/gas meter
  • Horizontal distance: 1.5–4 m from the gas hob (avoid being too close to prevent false alarms from cooking smoke/steam)
  • Open air flow, not blocked by cabinets or curtains

❌ Never install here

  • Directly above the stove / range hood (high heat, oil fume damages sensor)
  • Near windows, exhaust fans, air-condition vents (draught blows gas away)
  • Inside closed cabinets, wet areas (sink), high-temperature spots
  • Peaks of vaulted ceilings (stagnant air pockets)

3. Tools you need

Drill + wall plugs, screwdriver, pencil, level, dry cloth. Most home alarms are plug-in AC 220V / 110V, some are wired or battery backup.

4. Step-by-step installation (standalone plug-in alarm)

  1. Mark the wall position following the height rule for your gas. Check no hidden wires/pipes behind the wall.
  2. Drill holes, insert wall anchors, fix the mounting bracket with screws.
  3. Clip the gas detector onto the bracket.
  4. Plug into a permanent power socket (do not use a switchable socket you can accidentally turn off).
  5. Power on: It will go through a warm-up countdown (usually 2–3 minutes, flashing LED) before entering monitoring mode.
  6. Press the TEST button to check loud sound and flashing alarm light work normally.

5. If you install the linked automatic shut-off system (recommended)

This system = gas detector + solenoid shut-off valve on the gas supply pipe:

  1. A certified gas fitter installs the solenoid valve on the main gas pipe.
  2. Wire the signal cable from detector to the solenoid valve (follow the manual wiring diagram).
  3. After all wiring, power on and test: trigger the test alarm, the valve should automatically cut off gas supply.
  4. After test, manually reset the solenoid valve to resume gas flow.

6. Maintenance & emergency rules

  • Test with the test button once per month.
  • Wipe dust/oil on sensor with a dry cloth; no alcohol or spray cleaner.
  • Replace the whole unit every 5 years (sensor has a fixed service life)深圳市住房....
  • When alarm sounds:
    1. Turn off the main gas valve
    2. Open doors/windows to ventilate
    3. Do NOT touch light switches, phones, plugs, lighters
    4. Evacuate and call the gas supplier

7. Extra tips

  • If you use both natural gas and LPG, fit two separate detectors at their correct heights.
  • Smart models can connect to Wi‑Fi hubs and send phone alerts.
  • Always follow your local gas safety code and the product manual first
